Super Bowl LI is coming to Houston! The countdown is well underway. The big game, the crowds, the parties, the events, the excitement are coming back to Houston! National Football League team owners have awarded Super Bowl LI to Houston following a highly competitive bidding process that brought together a multitude of local public agencies and private entities. The biggest single game in American sports will be played at Reliant Stadium in February 2017 bringing a multitude of visitors, unprecedented global media attention and tremendous economic impact to Houston.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am for Houston in being selected as the site for the 2017 Super Bowl,” says Houston Texans owner Bob McNair. “This is a worldwide stage that will be constructed in Houston and the world will be watching. It’s an opportunity to showcase our wonderful city, the NFL and the Super Bowl all at the same time.”
The Houston Super Bowl Host Committee and Houston Airport System unveiled the third of four countdown clocks April 27, 2016, in a ceremony inside Hobby Airport. The latest clock — the second at a Houston Airport System facility — is located in the central concourse ticketing lobby near the TSA checkpoint.
In February, one of the four clocks was unveiled at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on the median of John F. Kennedy Boulevard. The first clock was unveiled at NRG Stadium earlier in February, and a fourth and final clock will be unveiled later downtown at Discovery Green. These clocks, which feature a large football and scrolling display screen, show how many days until Feb. 5, 2017, when Super Bowl LI will be played at NRG Stadium.
