The Houston Rockets continue to celebrate their 45th Anniversary! The energy level was super high Thursday, April 26th during the last home game of the season against the New Orleans Hornets as the Houston Rockets honored their ‘2000’s Team of the Decade’. Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Steve Francis, Shane Battier, and Luis Scola were voted as the Houston Rocket’s 2000’s Team of the Decade!

Before the game the Rockets held a press conference to honor the players. Fans and media lined the Toyota Center hallway that serves as the monument to the greatest Rockets players. Players such as Olajuwon, Drexler, and Sampson hang on the walls above. Luis Scola, the only active Rocket from the ‘2000’s All Decade team’, Steve Franchise, the parents of Yao Ming, and CleRenda McGrady, Tracy McGrady’s wife were on hand to unveil the gigantic mural capturing the 2000’s Team of The Decade.

During a break in the game a video montage tributing the players was shown, capturing moments such as Yao’s post dominance, Shane Battier’s relentlessness, Steve Francis’s aerial display, and Tracy McGrady soaring baseline to throw down a massive dunk and virtually sitting on 7′ 6″ Shawn Bradley’s back. Framed commemorative posters were presented to the honorees representatives at half court. Rockets fans were treated to a celebration of the Rockets greatness and promises of things to come. It marked the end of the 2012 season, a season that saw exciting up and downs. The emergence of great play from players such as Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic. It was a great night for the Houston Rockets and for the players honored.

What do you remember most from the Rockets play during the 2000’s? Tracy McGrady’s all round spectacular play, and the famous 13 points in in 35 seconds; Steve Francis flying through the air making spectacular plays; Yao Ming’s big, dominant play and touch; and let’s not forget the 22 amazing, unbelievable, and yes, unforgettable wins in a row. The 2000’s were a very exciting star-filled time in Rockets history!

As part of the Rockets’ 45th anniversary season and in an effort to pay homage to the many Rockets memories, fans were given the opportunity to select the team of the decade. This team will be honored during Houston’s April 26 game against New Orleans, the last regular season home game.

The other great players and candidates that were part of the voting were point guard Rafer Alston, point guard Aaron Brooks, power forward Chuck Hayes, guard Cuttino Mobley, center Dikembe Mutombo.

Yao Ming and Steve Francis have retired. Shane Battier currently plays for the Miami Heat. Tracy McGrady is currently playing for the Atlanta Hawks. 7 time NBA All Star Tracy McGrady is the leader among active players in postseason Playoff points at 28.53. Fans fondly remember Tracy for his incredible game ending play against the San Antonio Spurs where he scored 13 points in 35 seconds to win the game, and also his breath-taking baseline Playoff dunk over 7′ 6″ Shawn Bradley.

As a fan of Argentina, I feel truly honored and proud to be supporting the Rockets ever since Luis Scola join them back in 2007. He was indeed the main puzzle that the Rockets were missing through out the time when they were trying hard to win a first playoffs series. Finally it did came in 2009 against the Blazers, and surprise run that took them all the way to the Western Conference Final. This team could have won the a title if it wasn’t for injury concern. Thank you Houston Rockets for naming Luis Scola in your Team of the Decade. Vamos Rockets!!! Vamos Argentina!!!

Better ending in Houston for TMAC.  Glad they appreciated him and his play.  He has been my favorite player since he entered the league and I’m hoping he plays a few more years; as I love his team ball and his great play.  Go TMAC!
