Looking to do something on the Wild Side? Want to be up close and personal with Camels, Alligators, Buffalo, Zebras, Deer, Ostriches, Emus, and more? Go experience your very own African safari at Bayou Wildlife Park in Alvin, Texas. The suburb of Alvin is a short drive from central and southwest Houston. An adventure-filled tram ride with experienced wildlife guides will take you over 80 acres of natural habitat. They have alligator ponds and three monkey islands. See and feed animals and birds from Africa, India, Asia, Australia, and North and South America. Pony rides and a petting zoo are also available for the kids.
Entering the park visitors are surprised to encounter large animals standing in the street, approaching your vehicle. Llamas, deer, rams, and all sorts of friendly horned animals meander around and hope to find a treat from the buckets of food you may have purchased upon entering the park.
Red Kangaroos bound in one area, while alligators bask nearby in an enclosure. Walk into the barn area and see the petting area with goats, pigs, and deer. Don’t be surprised if one of the giant giraffes walks inside for drink. The lively ostriches that approach the tram are a favorite. The giant bug-eyed ‘Big Birds’ come right up and hope you hold your bucket of treats out to them.
This outstanding park is populated by free roaming birds and animals from the far corners of the world.
The trip takes you over the 80 acres of prairie and woods and the guide delivers an exciting and interesting dialouge while you feed the animals. There are 50 species of animals and birds totaling 500 in number. Most animals and birds run free in the park.
So you don’t have to go to Africa, or even a large park like Disneyland to experience a safari. It’s right here in the Houston area!
